Remembrance Day Poppy Crocheting
Last night I ran a crochet demo for the lovely ladies of Shrawley Wives & Girlfriends Group (SWAG) at Shrawley Village Hall to help them crochet some poppies for fundraising (Royal British Legion).
As its a cause I have always supported, I was happy to help.
The fun part was tracking down a pattern which was simple enough for beginners to use and which gave those more accomplished crocheters a bit more to tackle. So I found a pattern online from the lovely Bella Coco – this was ideal because it also had a video link to YouTube…and knowing how difficult it is to teach total beginners crochet in small groups in 2 hours, showing 20 people how to crochet in under an hour was a real challenge.
Some of the ladies had crocheted in the past so the technique and stitches came back to them quickly, whereas others had never crocheted so needed a crash course on crocheting and the stitches they needed to use.
Hopefully they manage to crochet lots of poppies successfully for their fund raising – I am getting my crochet hooks busy already to donate some finished ones to them for sale.
